Reading Museum Service is pleased to announce the creation of an exciting new pilot scheme as part of our HLF Outside the Box project. Aimed at older members of the community our ‘Memory Boxes’ will contain objects to spark recollections.
Original artefacts, photographs, documents, oral histories, film, smells and sounds will draw you back in time and place. These boxes aim to provide a valuable resource for the local community in Reading and Wokingham. They will be available to professionals in the health and social services sector to use with individuals or groups.
Our first box on Home Life in the 1950s was recently
evaluated by an over sixties group in Whitley. Their
response was very enthusiastic and the objects in
the box generated a great deal of pleasure and discussion.
Boxes have also been trialled in partnership with
doctors at Prospect Park hospital for patients with
memory loss and dementia, again with very positive
outcomes.

this project please contact us on education@readingmuseum.org.uk
